Goselet is one of many Scots words for different types of rain and means “a soaking, drenching downpour”. I love watching the heavy raindrops hitting the surface of a loch or a puddle during these showers, which is just as well since they are a regular feature of Scottish summers. The lace pattern used in the shawl is adapted from a Barbara Walker stitch pattern and reminds me of the ripples that the rain makes on the water.

Goselet is a top-down crescent-shaped shawl which starts with a garter stitch tab. Garter stitch wings frame a central lace panel and the shawl is finished with a simple eyelet edging. Charts and written instructions are provided.
